Earlier I put up a post that I am organizing a dive trip to Kona toward the end of the year. The idea is to get to the island, do some incredible diving and take in what Hawaii has to offer without spending a lot.
Since I am working with small boat operators, there’s only space for 6 divers. The plan is to specifically get away from the usual cattle boat operations and build a trip around getting more experienced divers to sites the locals usually keep to themselves.
The other goal is to do it all on the cheap. I don’t have the exact numbers yet, but it looks like a go for early December (probably 12/5 – 12/12). Hotel and 6 days of diving is coming in right around $1050.
We’re probably going to be at the Kona Seaside Hotel. It’s right in Kailua and walking distance from just about everything. I’ve stayed there and like it. It is clean and friendly, but not a 5 star hotel by any stretch.
Airfare is at $611 right now. I’m keeping my ear to the ground on that one.
So, if you are like me and view your hotel as a place to sleep, and want to dive every day, this is the trip for you. Only 4 spaces left.
